Artists from Australia and all over the world come to Adelaide for the annual Adelaide Fringe Festival. Adelaide is a city and wine capital of South Australia. Named after Queen Adelaide, wife of British King William IV, the city offers a peaceful atmosphere as it is populated with parks, beaches, broad streets, historical architecture, restaurants, and cafés. It is inhabited by approximately 1 million people and it is surrounded by landmarks such as the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Torrens River which flows through the center of the city. The heritage of Adelaide is present with the many ancient buildings that decorate the capital. Built in 1841, the Adelaide Gaol Site and Museum is one of the oldest public buildings in South Australia. The site, which was once a prison, tells the story of how prisoners lived in ancient South Australia. Take a journey to the past and visit the Government House. You will have the opportunity to get a glance of the Victorian style summer home of Governor Sir Richard MacDonnell, which has had its share of royal guests from Queen Elizabeth II, to the Duchess of Yorke, and King George VI.

Get up close and personal to the mummy and coffin of Renpit-Nefert in the Egyptian Room at the South Australian Museum or take a stroll and breathe in the aroma of the beautiful flowers at the Adelaide Botanic Garden. The city has several astounding attractions that will take your breath away. To add to the unforgettable memories pick up a souvenir from one of the local boutiques or shop until you drop at the outlet stores in Harbour Town or retail stores in Westfield. Tourists are encouraged to dance under the stars to a live band or recorded music at one of the many nightclubs or pubs in Adelaide or head to the Rhino Room or the Arkaba Hotel and laugh until you cry at the jokes of some of the best comedians the city has to offer.

Whether it’s Malaysian, Spanish, Italian or Australian delicacies, the mixture and diversity of foods appeal to many cultures. During the hot, dry summers temperatures average at around 84.2 ºF and in the cool, dry winter temperatures ranges around 59 ºF. The nice weather makes taking a walk around the city very comfortable and enjoyable. To catch up on your exercise, cycling is another mode of transportation and the numerous bike lanes provide a safe and pleasant ride for cyclist. Not only is riding a bike in Adelaide fun but it is free as well. Tindo (the first solar powered bus) provides transportation from the city to North Adelaide. Tram rides to the beach resort in Glenelg are also free from Moseley Square Terminal and Jetty Road stop 19. In addition, trains and buses offer trips near the State Library, Botanic Garden and other attractions. Single ride adult tickets range from $1.50 (depending on the time of day) and an all day’s pass costs around $7.20.
